Admission information

Minimum pass type: Bachelor pass

Applicants should indicate BPharm as their first-choice programme. Applicants must hold or be eligible for a matriculation certificate or matriculation exemption. Meeting the minimum APS does not guarantee admission. Selection is competitive because the programme has limited capacity. Candidates are screened and ranked using their academic results. The BPharm programme uses an integrated, thematic and hybrid problem-based modular teaching approach. A Levels route for foreign applicants: Mathematics, Physical Science, Biology and English with minimum symbol C, plus a matriculation exemption certificate from Universities South Africa. Mature-age applicant backgrounds include formally trained pharmacy assistants, pharmacy technicians, or applicants with appropriate NQF-recognised training; Mathematics, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and English are required at Level 5. Transfer applicants may include applicants with incomplete Health Sciences or Bachelor of Science degrees; minimum university average is 65%; admission is ranked and subject to available space. Graduate applicants may include applicants with a Health Sciences degree or Bachelor of Science degree; minimum selection score is 12 points. Graduate academic transcript scoring: 75% and above = 24 points; 70% to 74% = 16 points; 65% to 69% = 12 points; 60% to 64% = 8 points; 55% to 59% = 4 points; 54% and below = 0 points. Requires one additional NSC subject at Level 4, with Accounting preferred, and one additional NSC subject at Level 4, with Economics preferred.
