Bursary Application Checklist

Funding applications often fail because documents are missing, outdated, unclear, or submitted late. Use this checklist before sending any bursary application.

Prepare your identity and academic documents

Most bursaries ask for certified identity documents, latest school results, proof of registration or acceptance, and sometimes a parent or guardian ID.

Keep clear scans ready in PDF format and name them in a way that makes sense, for example "ID-document.pdf" or "Grade-12-term-results.pdf".

Handle financial proof carefully

Many funders use household income to decide eligibility. They may ask for payslips, affidavits, SASSA proof, unemployment letters, or bank statements.

If a document is not available, do not guess. Read the bursary instructions and prepare the official alternative they request.

Write a motivation that sounds like you

A strong motivation explains what you want to study, why it matters, what you have done already, and how the funding will help you continue.

Avoid generic paragraphs. Use details from your school, community, subject interests, and career plan so the funder can understand the person behind the marks.

Quick Checklist

  • Confirm the closing date and submission method.
  • Prepare certified copies if the funder asks for them.
  • Check file size limits before uploading.
  • Save proof of submission, email receipts, and reference numbers.
